This just makes me sick!

I recently came across the existence of the anti-adoption society (thanks to Pia at Courting Destiny for that). I've never heard of anything like this. At first I thought it was a joke.

When I clicked the link for adopted killers I was sure it was a joke.

But no, apparantly these people are serious. So Ted Bundy was adopted. So what? So was Louis Armstrong, Eric Clapton, Leo Tolstoy, JRR Tolkien, Malcom X, Rudyard Kipling, Jesse Jackson, Jeanette Winterson and a host of others (actually looking at the list there seems to be a lot of authors there.

I am adopted, as is my brother. My partner is also adopted and we are due to have our first child in about 3 weeks. To the best of my knowledge none of us has ever killed anybody or is likely to.

As I child I had my unruly moments; all children do but I was raised well and in a loving home. I have a university degree. I have worked in several countries and travelled the world. In short I have had a pretty good life.

I recently got in touch with my birth family. I get on well with them too and it's great to have an older brother after years of being the eldest child. That doesn't mean that I wish things had been different though. I wouldn't have had it any other way, and this way I get two families.

So to all those people who think adoption is a bad thing: I strongly suggest you review your "research". There is a big difference betwen correlated events and cause-and-effect.

Even as an adoptee I'm smart enough to tell you that.

I just happened to grow up as the anti-adoption movement was gaining force

When I would go to so called adoption triad meetings, they would speak out against adoptive parents

I was told that I was the exception when I knew that not to be the truth

Ironically it was my father who had urged me to search. My parents had been told that their parenting skills were lacking because I had problems. I was probably saved from them being worse because of my parents--but even therapists bought into all that.

When I went to the meetings I realized that these were very sick people who were either unable to or unwilling to take responsiblity and try to fix their own problems.

I linked to this so people can see how stupid it is. The anti-adoption people would say thet there are many writers as writers tend to be unhappy--and would use pscyho babble to back that up

Part of the reason Marty Tankeloff was convicted of murdering his parents was that he was adopted and didn't show "the right emotions" when told about his parents deaths.

My parents happened to know his aunt and uncle who still support him. That's almost unheard of in "murdering parents" cases

And damn I'm proud to be in the same category as the people you listed

And prouder still to be my parents daughter--I have a grad degree in social work but avoided all adoption classes as I personally knew the teachers and their biases.

One has a "healing center" where people can go to get over the truama of having been adopted.

No way could I have spoken rationally in a class with a bias like that

That is so stupid, and unnecessarily hateful, I mean, haven't these people got something better to be doing with their time? I'm very much in favour of adoption and I really want to adopt at least one child, because it's giving a loving home and family to a child already around - what better gift could you ever give a child? :)
