Lost the plot?

Bryan Burk, executive producer of ABC's hit series Lost, told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming May 24 season finale will answer a lot of questions about the island and the castaways. "I think last year, we didn't answer as much as we could have, but we obviously left lots [of questions unanswered]," Burk said in an interview at "Destination: L.A.," a fan party for charity, in Glendale, Calif., on May 20. "I think this year we answer a lot more. Not everything, obviously, but there are a lot more answers, and it still has a big enough cliffhanger ... ending that will have everyone in numerous conversations over the summer."

What is it with TV series these days? Nobody seems content to make a decent show and then leave it at that. I enjoyed Lost season 1 but have become increasingly frustrated with season 2. The writers seem to have lost direction; a series like this needs a defining plot behind it, with each episode telling it's own story but at the same time driving this forward. Recently the episodes seem to have been driven primarily by character's flashbacks. This isn't enough.

It was an innovative concept and it worked for a while but why not wrap this up? Give the audience some answers before they start switching off, the series is cancelled and nobody ever finds out what the hell is going on.

Or maybe that's what the writers want? Come on guys - do you actually have a clue where you're going with this or are you hoping to be replaced before you have to work that one out?
